What is Kakobuy?

Kakobuy is a Chinese buying agent— a middleman service that purchases items from Taobao, Weidian, and 1688 on your behalf, inspects them at their warehouse, photographs them for your approval (QC photos), and then ships them to your door anywhere in the world. You pay the item price + a small agent fee + international shipping. That's it.

Most rep finds on communities like r/FashionReps and r/Repsneakers are sourced through agents like Kakobuy. The agent model solves a real problem: Chinese marketplaces don't ship internationally directly, and even if they did, you'd have no way to inspect the item before it leaves China.

Step by step

The full process

01

Create a free Kakobuy account

Head to Kakobuy and register. It takes two minutes and you'll get $450 in new-user coupons that stack on your first few orders. Use our link below to make sure the coupons apply.

Use an email you check regularly — Kakobuy sends QC photo notifications there.

02

Find what you want to buy

The easiest way is to browse KakoRep — every item is already verified and linked directly to Kakobuy. Hit 'Shop via Kakobuy' on any product page. Alternatively you can paste a Taobao, Weidian or 1688 link directly into Kakobuy's search bar.

Always check the review count and rating before ordering. Items with 200+ reviews are safer bets.
03

Submit your order on Kakobuy

Once you're on the Kakobuy product page, select your size/colour, confirm quantity, and hit 'Submit Order'. Kakobuy purchases the item from the Chinese marketplace on your behalf and pays the seller directly.

Leave a note if you have specific requirements — e.g. 'please photograph the sole' or 'no plastic bag'.
04

Wait for the item to reach the warehouse

Domestic shipping within China usually takes 2–5 days. You'll get a notification when your item arrives at the Kakobuy warehouse and QC photos are ready.

You can track domestic shipping in the Kakobuy dashboard under 'My Purchases'.
05

Review your QC photos carefully

This is the most important step. Kakobuy photographs the item from multiple angles before anything ships. You're looking at: overall shape and proportions, logo placement and font, stitching quality, hardware colour and weight, correct colourways.

If photos are unclear or you want an extra angle, request it in the Kakobuy app. They'll reshoot for free.
06

Choose a shipping line and pay

Once you approve QC, you'll see the shipping options. Prices vary by weight and destination. Budget lines (YunExpress, CNE) are the most popular. Express lines (DHL, FedEx) are fast but often trigger customs.

Check the estimated weight before ordering — heavier items like jackets can make express shipping expensive.
07

Track and receive

After you pay shipping, Kakobuy packs and dispatches your order within 1–3 business days. You'll get a tracking number you can follow on 17track.net or directly in the Kakobuy app.

If tracking stops updating for 5+ days, contact Kakobuy support — it's usually just a scan gap.

Deep dive

Reading QC photos like a pro

QC photos are the most important part of the process and most beginners rush them. Here's what to check, item type by item type.

Sneakers

  • Overall silhouette — compare with a legit stock photo from the same angle
  • Toe box shape and height
  • Sole colour, pattern, and text
  • Logo embossing or stitching on the tongue and heel
  • Lace holes — should be clean and evenly spaced
  • Inside label — font, layout, colourway number

Bags & Accessories

  • Hardware colour (gold-tone vs silver-tone) and weight feel in photos
  • Monogram or pattern alignment across seams
  • Stitching — even spacing and colour match
  • Interior lining and label font
  • Zip pull branding
  • Corners — should be clean, not fraying

Clothing

  • Tag placement and font
  • Embroidery or print centering
  • Fabric texture visible in photo
  • Button quality and alignment
  • Collar and hem flatness

Watches

  • Dial text font and spacing
  • Bezel markings clarity and alignment
  • Case finishing — brushed vs polished surfaces
  • Crown and pushers
  • Bracelet clasp action in video (ask for one)

Avoid these

Common beginner mistakes

Not checking QC photos properly

Most returns and regrets come from rushing QC. Take your time, open photos on a large screen, and compare with reference photos before approving.

Overpaying on shipping for cheap items

Paying $30 DHL shipping on a $15 item doesn't make sense. Match the shipping tier to the item value.

Declaring too high a value

Higher declared value = higher customs duty risk. Kakobuy lets you set the declared value — keep it conservative unless your country requires accurate declarations.

Ignoring seller ratings

On Taobao and Weidian, sellers with high ratings and lots of reviews are far less likely to send wrong items. Always check before ordering.

Not using coupons

Kakobuy regularly releases coupons in their app and community. New users get $450 in coupons on sign-up. Don't leave these on the table.

Ordering too many items at once on your first haul

Start with 1–2 items to learn the process. Once you know how QC works and which shipping lines suit your country, scale up.

Questions

FAQ

Is Kakobuy legit?

Yes. Kakobuy is one of the most established buying agents for Chinese marketplaces. They've processed millions of orders, offer buyer protection, and photograph every item before shipping.

Do I need a freight forwarder or can I ship directly?

Kakobuy handles everything — they act as both buyer and forwarder. You don't need a separate freight forwarder.

How much does the agent fee cost?

Kakobuy charges roughly 5–8% on top of the item price. This covers purchasing, warehousing, inspection and QC photos. International shipping is charged separately.

Which shipping line should I pick?

For most countries, YunExpress or CNE is the sweet spot — cheap, tracked, and low customs risk. For speed, pick DHL or FedEx but expect duties. For maximum stealth, choose a line marked 'sensitive goods'.

Will I get hit with customs?

It depends on your country and the value declared. Kakobuy lets you set the declared value on the shipping label. For EU buyers, packages declared under €150 are typically safe; UK under £135.

What happens if my QC photos look bad?

You can reject the item before it ships. Kakobuy will refund the item price (minus the small service fee) or help you reorder.

How do I find good reps?

Use KakoRep — every item in the collection is hand-verified and links directly to Kakobuy. Or browse r/FashionReps for community recommendations.
